On May 24, the boys’ lacrosse team won the FCIAC final, making them the FCIAC champions for the second year in a row. The Rams rose over the Greenwich Cardinals at Brian McMahon High School, enabling them to snatch  a victory of 8 goals to 5.

At halftime, the score was a tight 6-5, keeping the defense on edge and unyielding throughout the second half. Defensively, the star players were seniors Tom Costigan, Eric Persky and, John Rhudy,  as well as junior goalie Trent Nader, who blocked 12 shots throughout the game.

The goals ensuring the win came from senior Duke Repko and junior Harry Stanton in the fourth quarter. Senior Puck Richardson also scored a goal for the Rams after returning from an injury that kept him out of the semi finals.  Seniors Peter Kraus and Griffin White, as well as junior Teddy Bossidy each scored a goal as well, rounding out the other four that came from Repko and Stanton.

Coach Chip Buzzeo felt that many of the players had some of their best games of the season, “I would say that our star defense men players would be Costigan, Persky, and Rhudy, the three senior defense men,” he said. “I felt that all three of them had an incredible game.”

“At the midfield Repko and Teddy Bossidy probably had their best games of the year,” Coach Buzzeo added.

Although Stanton’s two goals and three assists earned him the official title of MVP, Buzzeo felt that Trent also had an MVP-worthy game. “I thought our goalie, Trent Nader, played an excellent game,” he said. “If we could give out two MVP’s he’d be one of them.”

In addition to being the Rams’ first back to back FCIAC win since 1988, this was Coach Buzzeo’s first win as head coach of the team.

Going into this championship game, Coach Buzzeo had a few principal goals, “Our goal in the beginning of the year is to win every game,” he said. “We’ve lost two games, we’ve won nineteen. So we’ve done pretty well trying to achieve that goal.”

“We always want to win a championship,” he added. “I thought we had a really good chance in the tournament. It’s the strongest county tournament in the state of Connecticut and it was really big for our program to we could win back-to-back years.”
