It’s 48-45 with 30 seconds to go in the fourth quarter and the Danbury Hatters are in the lead. The game was back and forth all night, with the Rams answering the Hatters who are expected to win the FCIAC championship. With approximately 17 seconds left, senior captain Jack Hladick sinks a three point shot to tie up the game. Bussey’s Bomb Squad was electric with a new wave of hope that the Rams may pull out a win over the sixth ranked team in the state as they headed into overtime.

Overtime was intense to say the least, as Danbury was leading with a score of 56-53. It seemed the game was over with the final seconds ticking away when senior Jack Lenihan shoots and scores a three pointer to tie the game yet again with less than a second remaining. The crowd erupted, cheering louder than before, as the team gathered to strategize their plan heading into  double overtime.

With 16 seconds left in double overtime, senior Aidan McLaughlin is fouled and needs to make two free throws to close the three point gap between the Rams and the Hatters. McLaughlin makes one of the baskets which makes the game, 59-57, the Hatters. Danbury scores another point and the Rams need to make another three-pointer in the remaining seconds to send them into a triple overtime. Unfortunately the Rams were unable to execute, falling to the Danbury Hatters, 60-57.

This was the Ram’s first loss of the season with their record standing at 3-1, but the key takeaway of this game was their determination that pushed them to match Danbury point for point till the end. The fans kept the game alive with their energy and the Rams put on a great show for everyone in the stands. Their next home game is January 13 against Wilton.
