Making its comeback, the chic, boho look has been appearing more and more in the city. Women layer extra-large, distressed sweaters and open cardigans over lacey, detailed tights. Stacks of wrap bracelets cover wrists and long, charmed necklaces embody the chicness of this outfit. Tousled hair, knee-high boots, and dazed eyes finish off the look. There are no rules to this not-so-new trend, but here are some guidelines so you don’t look like a hobo instead of so boho.

The Olsens and Nicole Richie have been sporting this look for years. They make effortless look chic, but sometimes a bit trashy too. Layering too much fur and maxi material isn’t very attractive. Layering can be tricky, but once you’ve established this way-of-dress, the sky is the limit. The following outfit is just an example of something you can easily throw together. A big, chunky sweater, preferably distressed, is multi-functional. Underneath a sweater like this, you’d wear a long tank or another long, but thinner sweater. You want whatever you wear underneath to show past the length of the chunky sweater on top. These pieces should reach somewhere above the knee, but it’s your choice. Pair this sweater look with tights or leggings. Wear the tights with shorts or a bodycon skirt if the sweaters are not long enough. Compliment the look with suede or leather knee-high boots. Finish it off with layered jewelry or a scarf.
