Making and breaking your future – and you didn’t even know it.

College. It’s a big deal. But the in-school college visits? Some see the in-school visits as just a way to show interest in a college they may apply to, whereas some are eager to escape the classroom. These visits have been at NCHS for 20 years now, and this year, 132 colleges are visiting our school. The question is: how valuable are in-school college visits?

The high school seems to be split 50/50 when considering the importance of the in-school college visits. “While some people do go to in-school college visits go to a lot, a lot of people don’t actually go to any…”

New homecoming policies instill positive experiences

The week of homecoming has arrived, and student and faculty advisors have been planning to build on the success of last year’s relatively trouble-free festivities with some new additions and changes.

This year, like last, students can expect a cleanly sanctioned three-day Spirit Week, pep rally, bonfire, and Homecoming. New this year, students will enjoy the lounge decorations all day on Friday the 23rd as opposed to just the first few periods.

In the past, Homecoming had operated on different terms. Student Body President Dolly Meckler reflected on years past, “The bonfire was just mean, spirit week was crazy and just a big distraction, and Homecoming was not breathalyzed,” she said…

Homecoming is more than football

Homecoming is a time for our school to unleash its red and black spirit, show its true colors and come together as a school. Even though most students are getting ready for the big football game many other teams are playing over the weekend along with football including girls soccer, field hockey, swimming and diving, volleyball.

These five teams will be playing Friday October 23rd, and Saturday October 24th, right after being pumped up by a week of spirit. Athletes hope that the our school spirit will bring victory to all of the teams in both home and away games.

Student coalition gears up for ’09-’10

The Student Coalition held a meeting on Sept. 30, marking the first time this year the coalition met with all its new freshman delegates. The freshman class elected Katie Kuberra as Class President, Ashley Feldman as Social President, and Harrison Besser as Political president.

Katie Kuberra said, “the meeting primarily consisted of planning for the upcoming homecoming week. We’ve been planning the bonfire, the three spirit days, and the dance”. This year the coalition is more concentrated on “enhancing the traditions the students have enjoyed in past years” said Kuberra. The coalition also counts Homecoming Queen and King votes on top of planning for the entire week of festivities.
