For most of us, summer means a beach and a book. But for many NCHS student athletes, this season presents another opportunity to compete. This time not representing the Rams, but instead their respective country clubs, whether it be the New Canaan Field Club Bandits, the Waveny Gators or the Lake Club Tigers.

As Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference (FCIACs) and states start to wrap up, senior athletes are preparing to leave the turf fields of NCHS as they move on to college athletics. But for these athletes, summer is not just a vacation: it is also a training session to prepare for them for their upcoming chapter as a college athlete.

As teachers begin to wrap up their classes, the overhead announcements come on and finally second period is over: “Would all teachers please turn to channel 78 for this morning’s announcements”. It’s Friday morning and students begin crowding around TVs in the lounge, classrooms and the library to watch.
Soon enough, the Rams Sports Report comes on screen, along with the much anticipated announcements of Brendon Baker and Taylor Wilson. For these two sportscasters, announcing sports on live camera looks natural. But where did these two boys come from?

Looking up at the mound, spectators are puzzled to see that the pitchers throwing strikes aren’t upperclassmen but rather sophomores JR Anderson and Ali Reilly. At the start of this spring baseball and softball season, these players are emerging as pitching threats.

As most seniors are starting to slack off, boys’ Varsity lacrosse captain, Bobby Distler, is in his final lacrosse season at NCHS before he heads to Lynchberg college to play for the Division 3 Hornets.
