The Joseph Kelly Heilbron Foundation, created by NCHS alumni Kenny Slattery, is asking everyone to “red out” today.

In honor of Joseph Heilbron, a former New Canaan resident who passed away this year at the age of eleven due to an undetected heart defect, the Joseph Kelly Heilbron Foundation hopes to increase awareness of and raise money for pediatric heart disease research.

From the moment the last flake of snow melts into the ground, Spring Fever is in full swing. Though Connecticut temperatures only max out at around 70 degrees, students are not taking any sunny days for granted.

Some warmer states may call it crazy, but students are taking complete advantage of the warmer days, at least clothing-wise. “It’s acceptable to start wearing flip-flops or sandals starting in March, assuming that it’s not still snowing,” junior Kimmy Glerum said…

SATs this Saturday

On Saturday the Collegeboard will be administering the SAT Reasoning Test. NCHS is not a testing center for this test, and therefore students are taking the test at either Darien High School, Westhill High School, or Fairfield Ludlowe High School.

The Collegeboard only offers the Reasoning Test on the March test date, so students who wish to take a Subject Test must wait until the May or June test date…

National Honor Society lends support to MDA

This week, the National Honor Society (NHS) will be selling shamrocks for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) during lunch. The school got involved with the fundraiser at Mr. Pavia’s suggestion.

”Mr. [James] Lacerenza has family in town and has solicited local schools to support the MDA,” NHS Faculty Advisor Roger Hansell said. ”Whenever a request for community service comes to me, I forward it to the National Honor Society Student President or Vice President. They then contact the membership and organize the fundraiser…”
