Fire Station hosts St. Baldrick’s head shaving event for childhood cancers

On Saturday, Mar. 12, the New Canaan Fire Company No. 1 hosted the town’s second annual St. Baldrick’s Foundation fundraiser at the fire station. The charity is run by volunteers aimed at raising money for and awareness of childhood cancers. In recent years, students have shaved their heads during March as a nod St. Baldrick’s.

Third floor pipe backs up

A leak sprung Friday, Feb. 11, around 1:00 p.m., starting on the third floor and creating puddles of waste water in two chemistry rooms, a third floor prep room, the English Office, the Writing Center, and the spiral staircase area on both the first and second floors. According to Assistant Principal Larry Sullivan, the water is not sewer water, and not hazardous.

Students participate in principal search focus group

A focus group comprised entirely of students met with members of the Search Committee looking for Principal Tony Pavia’s replacement, on Tuesday, January 25, from roughly 1:30 to 2:30 in the Wagner Room. They discussed the qualities they would look for in a principal, what students enjoy about the school, and improvements that could be made to school environment.

Pura Vida holds third annual Flag Football Tournament

The Pura Vida club hosted their third annual flag football tournament Sunday, November 8 on the water tower field. There were 23 teams and 151 players.

Sharon Knechtle founded Pura Vida at NCHS four years ago after she went on a mission trip with students. They enjoyed the trip and weren’t ready to have it all end, she said. As a result, they decided to make a year-round club dedicated to helping the world’s impoverished people.
