Nathaniel Philbrick, author of “In the Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex,” will be making an appearance at the New Canaan High School auditorium at 7 p.m. on Fri., Apr. 4 to talk to attendees about his American novel. This non-fiction narrative novel, which was chosen as the charter book for One Book New Canaan, explores the loss of the Essex after an enraged sperm whale attacked it in the Pacific Ocean.

Getting to hear the language of the book in their voice when they read a section always does something for me that my own reading has not.”

Cheryl Capitani, the Teen Services Librarian at the New Canaan Public Library, is also excited to hear Mr. Philbrick talk. “He is a great speaker, an accomplished writer, and a generally interesting guy,” she said. “We hope that lots of students will come out to see him, along with many other members of the community.”
