Signups for AP tests began Monday, Feb. 28 in the College and Career Center and continue through Friday, Mar. 4. Registration requires a check of $95 per test made out to “NCHS Guidance.”
Students taking AP courses benefit from taking AP exams. “It would be in a student’s best interest to take the exam[s]because if they don’t, they won’t receive the weighted [course]grade on their transcript,” Sue Carroll, Coordinator of the College and Career Center, said.
For students who might not be able to fulfill the cost of taking the exams, the College and Career Center can provide financial aid. “I know [taking the exams is]expensive, but we can help out with fees if it’s a hardship for a family,” Ms. Carroll said. “Students would just have to see Ms. Rivera in the school counseling office.”
Though AP registration officially ends on Friday, Mar. 4, the College and Career Center has built in one extra day for late-comers. “Monday the 7th is the absolute last day [for signups]and we tack on a $30 penalty fee for being late,” Ms. Carroll said.
Students who sign up for AP exams are required to attend one session in the cafeteria offered Apr. 26-28 to fill out preliminary paperwork. Students must also bring a pencil to the meeting.
Ms. Carroll recommended that students sign up early. “Come register! Don’t wait until the last minute,” she said.
