First things first here’s a video (with captions below) of the conversation between my dad and I when I told him I had Missouri in the final four; Video by timeandmusic
“Yeah I had picked Mizzou in the final four…”
“I didn’t know you had.”
“I did.”
“You wanna talk about it?”
“Nah.”
“Hey Go, I dont know alot, but you see this bracket…all these wrong picks…it’s not your fault.”
(stop watching here, unless you’re feeling saucy and can handle swear words)
Now I believe that after Norfolk State (I don’t know where it is either) shafted Mizzou, only two perfect brackets remained in the country. Rumor has it they belonged to Stephen Hawking and a kid from North Dakota but who really knows. Then pigs began to fly and Lehigh upset Duke…but actually, Lehigh beat Duke.
And while these games didn’t help me on my quest to stacking cheese, it’s always a pleasure to watch something as historic as two no. 15 seeds beating two no. 2 seeds. Other Cinderella hopefulls included Cincy and Ohio. To the underdogs, we salute you.
But per usual, things panned out and we are left with four of the nation’s best teams; Kentucky, Ohio State, Kansas, and Louisville.
Kentucky, who I picked to win it all, is absurdly good. Terrence Jones (yes, yes, the rumours are true- he is my second cousin) was built to cram. The kid is an absolute tank, and sets the steez bar high with his blue shin sleeves. And, of course, we can’t forget about the homie Anthony Davis, who as a kid (fortunately for us Big Blue fans), put more effort into his shot than facial hair grooming.
Ohio State. I dont like you. The only reason you’re good is because of Sullinger. Peace.
Ah, Louisville! The breath of fresh air. Not too many people had them going this far, but they’ve certainly proved themselves as a championship contender. They play rival Kentucky on Saturday , and I think it’ll be one of the best games in the tournament.
Kansas. I dont have too much to say about the Jayhawks either, besides the fact that Thomas Robinson is an absolute boss, and things would be quite different for them if Kendall Marshall hadn’t “broken” his wrist. Yeah, I’m still bitter about it.
On Saturday, these teams face off with the finish line in sight. I think Kentucky will beat Louisville, Kansas will beat OSU- and when it’s all said and done- Kentucky will take the cake.
If you don’t like my predictions, go read another local high school blog.
I mean I could be anywhere in the world, hear this song, and automatically nosedive into the nearest la-z-boy. Damn I love March Madness.
