As the holiday season rapidly approaches, town residents will show their festive spirit at the annual Holiday Stroll, Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. The town encourages local families and residents to come out and support local businesses while raising holiday cheer. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Outback Student Governing Board, and admission to the Holiday Stroll is free.

The festivities will begin on Friday at 6 p.m and last until 9 p.m. The night will consist of Santa’s arrival, the downtown tree lighting and live entertainment from the New Canaan Dance Academy. Stores will even be extending their hours to allow for some early Christmas shopping, with many staying open until 9 p.m.

On Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., there will be a photo op with Santa, a cast of characters, more live entertainment and a gingerbread house tour. For those who missed out on the previous night’s entertainment, this serves as another opportunity to get into the holiday spirit.

The event is sponsored by local businesses such as Milestones, Halstead Property, L’Armoire, and is run by the New Canaan Chamber of Commerce. It is one of the main events of the holiday season in New Canaan, and showcases the town’s support of community and commerce.

Junior Mary Campbell has been waiting for the Holiday Stroll since October. “I can’t wait to see the town come together, and of course I’ll be waiting to see the man in the big red suit,” she said.
