On May 23, NCHS held its Senior Award Recognition Assembly, where over 130 students were acknowledged for their achievements in academics, the arts, athletics and community service.

Multiple award winners include former Courant editor-in-chief Amy Meng, who was recognized with five awards in the arts including journalism and creative writing. Senior Radea Raleva won the scholar-leader award, as well as four others in the performing arts such as theater and choir. Daniel Yoo, another recipient of the scholar-leader award, also received multiple awards for academic achievement. Daniel will be attending the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

Assistant Principal Ari Rothman describes the selection process and what they look for in students. “When we look at departmental awards, the staff finds people who have accomplished a great deal in those programs, not just necessarily the students who received the highest grades,” Mr. Rothman said. “I encourage the faculty to look for kids who have really brought the most to the program.”

Mr. Rothman also discussed the different categories that students can be recognized in. “It is our annual event, at which students, primarily seniors, are recognized for accomplishments in academics, leadership, service and contributions to the school and community,” he said.
