The annual New Canaan Turkey Trot 5k run at Waveny Park will be held Sunday, November 25th, at 11AM, and all proceeds will go towards the Open Door Shelter in Norwalk, CT. This shelter is able to help women and men, as well as families, providing them with meals, clothing, and temporary housing.

Senior Brielle Connelly has been the co-chair of the Turkey Trot for two years and has helped with the race since her freshman year. “The main goal of the Open Door Shelter is not to just help temporarily, but it is to help people get back on their feet,” says Brielle. “The shelter helps people with things such as a job search, starting up a business, and finding a house.”

The run first started with only a couple of families running in Waveny Park around 15 years ago and has grown more and more ever since. For all who want to run in the annual New Canaan Turkey Trot, registration is still available for the race. You can sign up by going to New Canaan Turkey Trot online and pay $30 to participate. The price of registration will increase after November 24 at 11:59PM.

The meeting place for the trot is at Waveny Park Castle where there will be signs that lead to either the front circle or the West porch. According to the New Canaan Turkey Trot organizers, the runners who wait until last minute to register still have to sign up online before the race. After runners have registered online, they may proceed to the check-in line at the park. Additionally, there is a mobile app that is available for check-in. The New Canaan Turkey Trot website states, “we strongly advise you to take advantage of our early check in at New Balance New Canaan Friday and Saturday, especially if you have ordered a shirt or hat.”
