Thursday Oct. 10, students participated in “Turn Back the Clock Day” during the annual Spirit Week. Although this may be normal for NCHS students, it can be surprising to visitors. “When I walked in I was surprised, but this is my fourth year of recruitment so I’ve seen plenty of spirit weeks,” Assistant Director of Admissions for the University of Miami Grant E. Cutler said.

As an admissions officer, Mr. Cutler sees a varying range of spirit during school visits.“The best kind of days when you are recruiting are on spirit days like Halloween,” Mr. Cutler said. “That’s very interesting because you’ll have students who actually email you later and apologize for what they’re wearing. They think I’m going to judge them off of their outfit for that day.”

The display of school spirit is something that Mr. Cutler enjoys.  “Spirit week generally tends to be my favorite week of recruitment mainly because I get to see so many interesting outfits and costumes,” Mr. Cutler said. “So it’s a lighter side of admissions I guess you could say.”
