It’s that time of year again, when those who are in a relationship have the excuse to amp up the PDA, and the other single teenagers break out their box of chocolates and the latest season of the Bachelor.

Sitting across from senior Nick Depuy effects your mood. His passion for music is unreal, his songs are nurtured with so much care its almost tangible, and of course we all know he can perform. His signature calm, nonchalant mood and 6’6’’ ambiance tells a story beyond the accomplished musician we all know and bet one day is going to make it big.

After last year’s dream season came to a disappointing end when the boys’ hockey team lost their first and only game of the year in the CIAC Division 1 Semi-Finals to St. Joseph’s, players, coaches and Rams fans entered an offseason full of questions and uncertainty. I am surprised that Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich has stayed in the race for this long. Since our May 25 2011 post, Looking ahead at 2012: Newt Gingrich, Gingrich has certainly proven me wrong and has actually managed to launch his campaign. Gingrich has managed to avoid the bottom of the polls, coming in 4th place in the Iowa Caucus with 13% of the vote, and 4th place again in the New Hampshire primary with 9% of the vote. But there is still a lot that will keep Newt Gingrich from getting the Republican nomination. Like I said in our previous post, coming out against Congressman Paul Ryan’s plan to slash Medicare spending lost Gingrich the support of extreme conservatives. His patriotic affair and three marriages haven’t helped his image either.
Because electronics continue to be replaced for the latest version, the Hope 4 Ghana Club has arranged a fundraiser from Jan. 4-14 to provide another alternative to simply throwing away old electronics.
The club is collecting used cell phones, lap tops, MP3 players, iPods, handheld games, GPS, video cameras and still cameras that can be dropped off in the boxes in NCHS main lobby or Saint Luke’s School. The money raised will support the Ghana Children’s Fund, an organization started by senior Julia Tuttle’s family, that benefits the Good Shepherd Orphanage in Ghana
