On Oct. 27, the stands of Dunning Stadium were filled with students and their families donning red and black attire for the annual homecoming football game. The New Canaan Rams challenged the Wilton Warriors, and came out victorious with an end score of 21-14.
Despite walking away with a win, the team felt that spirit week was a distraction to their playing. “I think we are really glad to have spirit week over,” Teddy said. “It’s really a distraction and we are lucky we got away with this one.”
Junior Connor Buck agreed. “We played a good football team today. I’m happy we won but we definitely could have played better,” Connor said. “We missed a few turnovers and fumbles that were crucial to the game.”
Along with the game, many other traditions were fulfilled throughout the homecoming weekend. During halftime, New Canaan High School alumni were honored and admitted into the New Canaanl Sports Booster Club Hall of Fame.
Among this crowd was Charlie Cole, member of the NCHS graduating class of 2003. At the London 2012 Olympics this summer, Charlie won the bronze medal in the Men’s Four. Not only was Charlie awarded with the 2012 Alumni Award, but October 27th was officially announced Charlie Cole Day in New Canaan.
Overall, the annual homecoming football game brings the entire community together to show their NC pride. “During homecoming, the stands are full of people who are here only once a year. It’s completely different from the normal friday night crowd of parents and younger kids,” Athletic Director Jay Egan said. “We try to do different things at half time, this year were honored the members in the Athletic Hall of Fame and also Charlie Cole for his Olympic medal.”
