Snow day causes change in exam schedule

After about an inch of snowfall which turned to freezing rain early this morning, Superintendant Dr. David Abbey cancelled school. According to a special schedule posted on the high school’s website, all exams will be pushed back one day. Second semester will begin Tuesday, Jan. 25 and will follow a Day B Homeroom Schedule.

Paramore: the start of a downward spiral?

It’s official: Paramore guitarist Josh Farro and his brother, Zac, have been replaced. For those of you who, just like me, were wishing that the brothers would change their mind and return to the band, prepare to be heartbroken: As reported by the Washington Post, guitarist Justin York, along with drummer Josh Freese who is best known for his work with bands such as Guns N’ Roses and Nine Inch Nails, have been welcomed to the band temporarily.

17 inches of snow cancels school

Today, Jan. 12, the third winter snowstorm struck, depositing 17 inches of snow on New Canaan. Students used the snow day to participate in favorite winter activities and rest up for midterms next week.

“I’ll be very happy to sleep in and take time to relax,” junior Sam Hines said. “I’ll sleep in, do a little studying for midterms, and maybe go sledding.”

Pura Vida hosts annual dodgeball tournament

The annual dodgeball tournament hosted by Pura Vida was held in the Main Gym this past Sunday, Jan. 9, from 5-8 p.m. According to team leader senior Catherine Betack, each ticket cost $19 which pays for 19 cent meals, feeding 100 children per ticket.

Catherine estimated that this event raised around $1,600 with 12 teams of six to eight people on each. The only requirement was that there be an equal number of boys and girls on a team; there was no age limit requirement. Many alumni came back to support the cause.

Looking at the school from a different perspective

Have you ever stepped into the school and let your eyes wash over your surroundings, focusing on more then just the buzz of the students? You walk in and are immediately hit with school spirit. Red and black are on the walls, tiled on the floor, and painted on the lockers. The sun is highlighting the word ‘SENIORS’ written in car paint on the glass-paned wall that’s spreading across the length of the cafeteria. Now go back to the spiral staircase, a popular gathering place for students. Some of the students are drawn in by the huge skylight above, glowing from the third floor to the first.
