NCHS’ library wins national library music video award

On May 25, the American Library Association announced NCHS as the winner of their “Why I Need My High School Library” contest, composed of students who created original music videos for a prize of $3000 to improve their library. The contest was divided into two categories, one for 13- to 15-year-olds and another for 16- to 18-year-olds, with New Canaan winning the honor for the latter.

On Friday, June 3, over 100 awards were given to seniors, juniors, and a few sophomores at the annual Recognition Assembly held in the auditorium. The hour and a half event presented awards to students for their independent achievements while their peers, teachers and parents watched in the packed audience.

The tradition of the backpack has been embraced throughout universal school history. Because of the amount of schoolwork they receive, students have always found it a hassle to carry all off their books solely with their hands. Yet, in recent years, some students have decided to revolutionize the idea of backpacks and use alternatively styled bags to carry their things.

9th annual Memorial Day assembly brings greater meaning to the weekend

On May 27, NCHS hosted its ninth annual Memorial Day Veterans’ Symposium in the auditorium to honor of all the veterans in New Canaan and surrounding areas.

The assembly covered periods one and six and was a great success. Students from all grades came to honor the veterans. “This has been our biggest event ever, with over 180 veterans in attendance who fought in WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq,” secretary Lynda Pescatello said.
