Student Coalition Updates

Kelliane Hickey

This week in Student Coalition, the main portion of the meeting was spent on the upcoming lip-dub music video project. Many of you may have seen the endless Youtube videos of schools that did similar productions, such as the popular I Got a Feelin’ video. The idea of the music video is to gather as many student groups possible and roam around the school as everyone lip-syncs to the songs voted on: “Dynamite” by Taio Cruz and “Firework” by Katy Perry. Traditionally the video is filmed in one shot, but there was such a big turnout of support, we needed to spread the individual shots across several days.

Boys’ hockey seeks State title after second consecutive FCIAC Championship.

Doug Reilly
Sports Editor
With just 15 minutes left to play in the FCIAC Championship game against St. Joseph last weekend, hopes of an undefeated season and a conference championship for the Rams started to fade as they entered the 3rd period trailing 3-1. Thanks to goals by juniors Dylan Hart and Jake Granito, the game was tied, with a few minutes left in the game, bringing the New Canaan crowd back to life. Two disallowed goals in the final 2:30 of the third period, one for each team, kept the game at a 3-3 tie, and the FCIAC Championship was to be decided in sudden death overtime.

Going in to Rango, I was afraid that the film would turn my beloved genre into a hackneyed kids movie, making a mockery of everything Leone and Eastwood built to make the western what it is today. I was happily proven wrong.

We’re kicking off March with a kick-butt trend, also known as the military inspired jacket. This utilitarian piece is perfect for the chilly beginning of spring because it’s so versatile—both guys and gals are wearing it, and it’s flattering on everyone.

Godfather, Jaws, Lassie? How to define a classic film

Charlie Dorf & Francesca DeRosa
Arts and Entertainment Editors

The art of painting has been around for thousands of years, and yet debate still rages over what is a truly “classic” piece. Some claim the works of El Greco or Raphael, while others counter with Picasso and Dali. Film, on the other hand, has been around scarcely a century, but debate over what defines a classic movie ranges just as widely as the debate over its artistic ancestors.
