If you drive on South Avenue, Oenoke Ridge Road, Smith Ridge Road, or Main Street, pay attention. These roads have been named the most dangerous in New Canaan by the New Canaan Police Department. “The speeds on most of these roads is above 30 mph, and people don’t even follow that,” School Resource Officer Roy Bentley said. “When you get farther out of town [the speed limit] goes over 45 mph and people go even faster.”

Rory Shepard, a senior All-FCIAC player, verbally committed to Georgetown University’s mens soccer program.
Although Rory has won various individual awards, he stressed that his team’s success is much more important than personal achievements. “I’ve won a few individual awards, but not many,” he said. “I’m a defender, so there’s not too much flash when it comes to playing. It’s more grinding and tackling. On the other hand, I have been on a lot of teams that have won tournaments, leagues and championships, and I’ve learned that your team’s success is really what counts.”

He has a voice like Mel Allen for the Yankees, Al Michaels from Monday Night Football and covers the NCAA Basketball Tournament like Brent Musburger. Although he may not quite live up to these sports announcer legends, this kid is well on his way. He resides in New Canaan, and his name is Brendon Baker.
Brendon, a freshman, has been acting like a sports journalist by filming his own web show called “Brendon Baker on Shovio” which, according to Brendon, is a unique perspective on sports’ top stories, and a place for sports fans to unite.

Hello world, I’m different.
What an awkward thing to say. In middle school– the place where confident, careless youngsters are forced to assimilate into adulthood–this is the last thing I would’ve wanted to admit. Even now, and especially in a small town like New Canaan, different doesn’t always feel like it works…

For a good portion of my childhood, my schedule was filled with ballet classes. Eventually that ended because my flexibility sucked to the extent that, well, I began to bawl during a stretch class when I was “pushed to my limit.”
