Today, Jan. 12, the third winter snowstorm struck, depositing 17 inches of snow on New Canaan. Students used the snow day to participate in favorite winter activities and rest up for midterms next week.

“I’ll be very happy to sleep in and take time to relax,” junior Sam Hines said. “I’ll sleep in, do a little studying for midterms, and maybe go sledding.”

Sam’s favorite spots to sled are St. Luke’s School or the New Canaan Country School. Because it’s the last week of quarter two, most students are taking advantage of the day to catch up on work and study for tests. “I do have a lot of work, but I’ll try to do most of it because I do want to take advantage of the free day,” Sam said.

For others, schoolwork is the last thing on their mind. “I’m really excited because it’s a good time to sit around and relax before midterms, and it’s the hump day,” sophomore Jordan Ventura said. “I’m most likely going to hang out with friends in the snow and go sledding.”

Some say snow days are about just hanging out around the house. “I’m going to sit around a fire enjoying hot cocoa,” sophomore Katie Kuberra said.

Sophomore Dana DeFranco will be spending her snow day celebrating her birthday. “I’m going to enjoy my snow day because I’m going to open some presents and hang out with friends,” she said.

Due to the snow day, NCPS will end the academic year one day later on Thursday, June 16. “I could care less, it really doesn’t make a difference,” Katie said.
