Going into the Class L State Championship game, both New Canaan and Masuk knew it would be a battle between two high powered offenses. Despite the fact the Rams went down early 16-0, senior captain Kevin Macari struck back with two touchdowns in the second quarter to electrify the crowd, setting the score at 23-14.

In the closing minutes of the first half, junior quarterback Matt Milano led New Canaan down the field where he ultimately connected with junior receiver Patrick Newton on a cross route to make the score 23-20 at the half. It was neck and neck at the half, the Rams posted a total of 282 offensive yards and Masuk put up 281.

In the second half, the Rams struggled to score and had even more trouble holding back Masuk’s offense led by junior quarterback Casey Cochran.

The Rams ended their four year reign of the state championship and  with a final score of 50-20. This is the first time since 2000 that the Rams have lost in the state finals.
