March Madness: The calm before the storm

Cinderella’s are bound to happen but where? In last year’s tournament, Florida Gulf Coast shocked the world by beating Georgetown. Anyone who chose the Eagles still gloats at their own genius. But this is a new year. A new chance for success.

I fill out my bracket like everybody else. I look at the match ups and for the majority of the time I pick the favorite. Except this year I chose one underdog. One David to slay Goliath. A team has only been on national television once this year. The North Dakota State Bison. Yes, the Bison. They are the same school you joke about when you ask your friends why they haven’t sent their application into North Dakota State yet. They are a small Midwest team that isn’t respected. Yet, they have the highest field goal percentage in the country. Basketball is a simple game, make shots and you own games. Well, the Bison have the first part of the equation but have to wait until they beat Oklahoma to prove themselves to the rest of the country.

Yet, why does only one team have to have the underdog title? The best part about March is it’s a blank slate. If you haven’t watched a college basketball game all year, no problem. You should still fill out a bracket. I have seen every team play that’s in the tournament minus Albany. They can all flat out play. Yet, my bracket will probably finish somewhere below average, because IT’S MARCH. It’s a time of chaos, hysteria, and celebration and that’s what makes it so much freaking fun. So, if you haven’t watched a game, still fill out a bracket. Maybe you’ll be this year’s underdog in your bracket pool? If not, who cares? No one knows what’s going to happen. Even analysts are out for the count. It’s anybody’s game, so I just have one question: who are you picking?
