9 ways to help keep you happy, healthy, and calm during midterms.

1. Eat fatty foods
Snack on some foods with a high content of good fats to help boost moods. Try eating nuts, avocados, cheese, and dark chocolate.

2. Don’t slack on Vitamin D!
Remember to go outside and face the sun which helps decrease seasonal depression and improve your mood which will help keep you motivated to power through a study session.

3. Get some z’s
Sleep, which is the most important point to follow, has a minimum necessity of 8 hours per night for teenagers.

4. Hit the gym
Exercising releases endorphins which psychologically makes you happier. Try running or types of cardio to get your heart rate up and keep your body moving. New Canaan YMCA is now staying open until 10 pm.

5. Have a steady diet
Eating well leading up to exams is more important than purging on comfort foods. “Midterms calories don’t count” is a myth that works against you! Eat protein rich foods like oatmeal, eggs, and fish that stimulate greater mental alertness. Although, a treat every once in a while doesn’t hurt!

6. Stay organized
Make a schedule, plan out which subject, when, and how long you’ll you’ll study for, and stick to your plan so you don’t get overwhelmed. Planning will help you not get distracted and prevent procrastination.

7. Take a break
We all understand how important is it to do well on midterms, but not as important as relieving yourself of pressure for a short time each day. Set out a certain time to relax and unwind, maybe watch some Netflix.

8. Comfortable clothing is key
Nothing is worse than sitting for hours on end in skin-tight jeans. Get comfy with some Juicy Couture tracksuits!

9. Listen to music
Create a playlist that will keep you focused, particularly classical music. However, it is also important that the music keeps your energy up so mix in a couple songs that you can get up and dance to while you’re taking a break.
