It is that time of year again where girls hockey players will have to get used to 4 AM wake up calls for morning practice. The team’s four senior captains Sarah Klearman, Mackenzie Lewis, Emma Patch, and Emma Rosenstein are excited for their last season together. “As a captain this year I think it’s especially meaningful to me to get to watch the team grow up and work together,” Emma Patch said. “Almost all the seniors have played together for four years, and to get to live through the amazing chemistry we have as a team is always incredible.”

Although the returning players already have excellent chemistry, having only lost senior goalie Nathalie DeNey last year, they are excited to welcome the new freshmen, and all they have to offer, onto the team. “On offense there’s Gianna Bruno, who’s amazing on the first line, and Brooke Deane who is really good,” Emma Rosenstein said. “Elizabeth McCarthy is great on defense, which is important because we run low on defense a lot, so that’ll make us stronger.”

In the past, the girls have started their season off with all-time rivals Darien, and this year the tradition continued on Monday, December 15. The Rams lost 8-3 to the Blue Wave. Junior Catherine Granito netted one goal for the Rams in the first period. Emma Rosenstein added two goals in the third period.  Although the Rams suffered a loss, they look forward to playing against them again later in the season.

The girls’ next game is against Ridgefield on Saturday, December 20 at 7 pm at Ridgefield.
