Girls Hockey MVPs

Caroline Knightly, Senior Editor @knightlycourant With the winter sports season in full swing, all teams are welcoming new players, whether they be freshmen, sophomores, juniors and even seniors. For seniors Alex Esposito,  Maddie Smith and Hannah Socci, they choose to fill their winter schedule with 5:30 am practices and lugging around hockey bags for the first time ever. Rather than sleeping in and keeping their backpack as light as possible as a senior, they let the stench and weight of their hockey bags takeover all for JV hockey. Amongst all the girls, this shows dedication and instructs people how to…

The Spanglers sprint to Providence

Campbell Armstrong, Reporter @carmcourant While track was mostly just an after school activity to fill their time, seniors Henry and Wyatt Spangler took their talent to a new level when they recently committed to run Division I track at Providence College. “I started playing at the start of freshman year,” Henry recalled. “I was playing lacrosse in middle school but I didn’t really want to pursue it in high school.” Wyatt and Henry agreed that sprinting was their forte, considering they were naturally very fast. Teddy Hood scored first for the Rams, running two yards into the end zone to put New Canaan up 7-0.…

Rams take on the Blue Wave for the annual Turkey Bowl

Samantha Axon, Sports Editor @SAxonCourant The New Canaan Rams and Darien Blue Wave met for the annual Turkey Bowl this Thanksgiving. Coming into the game, both teams were undefeated, but coming out, only one team could hold onto that honor. To start off the game, the Rams forced the Blue Wave into a quick three and out, leading Darien to punt the ball off to the Rams, but during the kick, a personal foul was called against New Canaan, giving the ball back to Darien, along with an extra 15 yards and an automatic first down. Once Darien got the…

The making of a championship team

Samantha Axon, Sports Editor @SAxonCourant On Thanksgiving day, the Rams football team faced off against the Darien Blue Wave in the annual Turkey Bowl. The 9-0 Rams were looking to win this game for the first time in four years. In 2013, the Rams were undefeated on the day before Thanksgiving, in 2014 they were undefeated the day before Thanksgiving, and in 2015 the Rams were once again undefeated until the day before Thanksgiving. Over the last three years, the Rams have only lost one game the entire season, all of them being against Darien on Thanksgiving. During this span of…
